Description:

NAMI Metropolitan Baltimore, a nationally recognized affiliate of NAMI Maryland and the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Executive Director to replace the current one who becoming the new Executive Director of NAMI Maryland.

NAMI, “the nations voice on Mental Illness, ” is a progressive grassroots membership organization that exists to empower families and individuals with mental illnesses through education and support and advocacy. NAMI additionally educates the public, confronts stigma, and advocates for improvements in the mental health system.

The Executive Director provides the leadership and daily management of the organization in the successful implementation of the strategic plan, annual goals and objectives in accordance with the organization’s vision, mission and values by:

• Overseeing all aspects of the organization and ensuring coordination among and between the various functional areas of the organization (e.g. education, support, advocacy and membership development)

• Developing and implementing internal operational policies and procedures for efficiency and effectiveness

• Supporting operations and administration of Board by advising and informing Board members of pertinent information, working with Board Committees and interfacing between Board and staff

• Overseeing design, marketing, promotion, delivery and quality of programs, products and services

• Creating the annual budget for Board approval and prudently managing the organization's resources within those budget guidelines according to grantor requirements, current laws and regulations

• Overseeing all expenditures and ensuring timely accurate reporting of financial conditions to the Finance Committee

• Effectively managing the human resources (paid staff and volunteer) of the organization according to authorized personnel policies and procedures that fully conform to current laws and regulations

• Serving as organization’s representative and contact with the membership, general public, public officials, and the media and ensuring the organization and its mission, programs, products and services are consistently presented with a strong, positive image

• Establishing local public policy positions in conjunctions with the Board and appropriate committees and ensuring effective advocacy efforts where appropriate

• Working with the Board to ensure adequate resources (e.g. funds, staff, technology)

• Overseeing fundraising planning and implementation, including identifying resource needs, researching funding sources, establishing strategies to approach funders, submitting proposals and administrating fundraising records and documentation

• Working closely with other NAMI Affiliates, NAMI Maryland and the national NAMI office, keeping them informed of information as appropriate

Qualifications:

• Graduate degree (MBA, healthcare policy) preferred;
• At least 5 years nonprofit management and leadership experience, including financial management, fundraising, staff and volunteer development, board relations, public relations/marketing, program management and strategic planning;
• Knowledge of the public health and human service systems;
• Experience with grassroots coalition building, advocacy and membership development preferred;
• Good judgment;
• Proficient use of technology
