Position Title: AmeriCorps Resource Coordinator

Term of Service: 9/8/08 -- 8/8/09

Rebuilding Together Baltimore is seeking an AmeriCorps Member as part of Rebuilding Together's national CapacityCorps program. Rebuilding Together Baltimore assists low-income homeowners in Baltimore City and Baltimore County with home repairs that will help keep them warmer safer and drier. We primarily assist homeowners that are elderly, disabled, or families with children. Rebuilding Together Baltimore is an affiliate of Rebuilding Together, Inc., a national nonprofit with over 200 affiliates across the United States.

The AmeriCorps Member will work with a team of dedicated staff to help build the capacity of Rebuilding Together Baltimore. Specifically, the AmeriCorps Member will focus on the following efforts:
1) Energy Efficiency services and education for homeowners;
2) Recruitment & retention of skilled trades volunteers;
3) Measurement of the organization's impact on individuals and the community.

The term of service for the AmeriCorps Member will begin on September 8, 2008 with a pre-service training in New Orleans (expenses paid by program) and will end on August 8, 2009. AmeriCorps Members are expected to serve the entire term.

Details & Benefits: Rebuilding Together’s CapacityCorps positions work in grassroots Rebuilding Together affiliate’s 38-40 hours per week for 11 months. CapacityCorps members receive around $1,045 per month as a living stipend to cover basic living expenses (before taxes). Other benefits include: an education award of $4,725.00 (before taxes) upon completion of service to pay off student loans or apply towards more schooling), health insurance, child care benefits, and a support network of other CapacityCorps members. Must be 18 or older. In addition to the many benefits of AmeriCorps service, we pay for our CapacityCorps members to attend out of state trainings such as orientation in New Orleans and two service project trips to rebuild homes in the devastated gulf coast.

About the Rebuilding Together CapacityCorps: Rebuilding Together’s AmeriCorps program, called the Rebuilding Together CapacityCorps is a high-impact AmeriCorps*National Direct program of 44 full time AmeriCorps members in 16 states. AmeriCorps*National Direct is a national service program in which dedicated individuals do eleven months of community work in low-income communities – essentially a domestic “Peace Corps” in exchange for excellent experience in a nonprofit and help paying off student loans. Rebuilding Together CapacityCorps is a brand new AmeriCorps program dedicated to increasing the capacity of grassroots nonprofit agencies to assist low-income homeowners in need.

Rebuilding Together CapacityCorps members will act as entry-level program managers in the areas of volunteer recruitment, construction/home repair, program development, partnership development, and client outreach. Our AmeriCorps positions offer unique exposure to grassroots nonprofits and provide excellent opportunities for leadership. RT CapacityCorps members will emerge with concrete nonprofit skills and professional experience that is hard to find in other AmeriCorps programs. CapacityCorps members take charge of a particular program area and create infrastructure so that the program can run more effectively and serve more low-income homeowners. We love self-starters who can dive in, take ownership and develop their vision. We look for individuals with a commitment to helping others, and excellent organization/writing/presentation skills. College degree is required. Recent college grads, retirees, stay-at-home parents looking to return to the workforce and those looking for second careers or experience in nonprofits are welcome! Rebuilding Together's mission is to preserve affordable housing by bringing volunteers and communities together to rehabilitate the homes of low-income homeowners. We are a dynamic and growing grassroots nonprofit organization that helps thousands of homeowners have safe and decent housing by repairing their homes free of charge. We partner with teams of volunteers to do major repairs on the homes of the elderly and those with disabilities in poverty.

Qualifications:

Education Requirements: Bachelor's Degree required

Skills Required: Experience managing volunteers. Public speaking experience. Excellent writing skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft PowerPoint, and use of internet. Knowledge of home repair/construction is a plus. Experience with database management is a plus.
