Alma Roberts is CEO, Baltimore City Healthy Start, Inc., a citywide infant mortality reduction nonprofit leading the battle to ensure all babies are born healthy. The organization has achieved positive outcomes in closing the gap between the rate of low birth weight and premature births for African American babies. Ms. Roberts was previously CEO of the Center for Poverty Solutions spearheading the Center�s work in the areas of self sufficiency, and health disparities, helping create the Maryland Health Disparities Coalition. Ms. Roberts has worked 35 years developing strategies to include the uninsured in mainstream health delivery systems. In establishing managed care plans for organizations such as Kaiser Permanente, Prudential Insurance, Grady Health System, and Detroit Medical Center, she�s positioned herself in the forefront for ensuring the inclusion of at risk populations as part of coordinated systems of care. She serves on boards and committees including Chair of the Board of the Woodbourne Center, Immediate Past Chair of the Maryland Health Disparities Coalition, and Vice Chair of the Board of Baltimore Health Care Access, as well as on the board of National Healthy Start Association, and the Community Council on Childhood Obesity. Ms. Roberts received her bachelor�s degree from Morgan State University and Masters of Public Health from University of Michigan. She is a Fellow in the American College of Health Care Executives, a Leaders 2000 Plus graduate and a Johnson and Johnson Fellow (2006). In 2005, she received the Harlow Fulwood, Jr. �Service Before Self� Award from the Rotary Club.

Baltimore City Healthy Start, Inc., (BCHSI) is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit corporation created in 1991 to implement a community-based effort to reduce infant mortality. BCHSI is now in its 16th year of operation and offers client-oriented services to pregnant and postpartum women and their infants residing in several of the most economically, socially and medically distressed areas of Baltimore City - where 33% of the Healthy Start service area residents live at or well below the poverty level.
